Is Your City LGBTQ FRIENDLY?

 

When considering whether a city is LGBTQ FRIENDLY, it's worth a look at its record. While Texas is a welcoming state, its state laws are largely incompatible with LGBT+ rights. In addition to its anti-discrimination laws, Texas lacks a statewide non-discrimination law. While many states and municipalities have laws that protect LGBTQ+ residents, Texas is a particularly problematic state.

However, the state of Wisconsin has a history of welcoming LGBTQ citizens and boasts at least one city that is considered LGBTQ-friendly. Madison has active homosexual rights organizations since the 1970s, and its LGBT community enjoys protections in employment, housing, and public places. The city has a liaison to help LGBTQ students navigate the school system and is also one of the most LGBTQ FRIENDLY in the U.S. Despite its relatively progressive attitude on LGBTQ+ issues, however, the state doesn't have any specific laws protecting transgender people or preventing harassment.

While many city guides merely list the best places to live, the new book 50 Fabulous Gay-Friendly Places to Live takes a different approach. Each city is described from a local's perspective. Openly Gay, Openly Christian argues that LGBT people are not inherently sinful, and offers anecdotal evidence as well as biblical context. Rev. The community of LGBTQ+ people is making a great start in the area by celebrating its progress and recognizing the diversity in its society. The LGBTQ+ community has long struggled to find comfortable spaces to feel free and safe. Hopefully, this new tool will make this a little easier. So, where can you go to celebrate your pride? Many cities in the region are on lists of the LGBTQ-friendly state. Human Rights Campaign has named major cities of Minnesota as "LGBT-friendly" based on their policies for the community. The Greensboro Arboretum, in particular, attracts a gay population and attracts mellow tourists. And, of course, High Point, the furniture capital of the world, has a very high gay population. It's a city with a strong gay community that has an interesting history of gay and lesbian pride.

In addition to the LGBTQ community, physicians should create an environment that is inclusive and respectful of all patients. By providing an open, welcoming atmosphere, physicians can meet the complex needs of their patients. To promote this, physicians can use a variety of resources. A patient-education brochure, a non-discrimination statement, or posters created by LGBTQ organizations can all help to make a practice more LGBTQ friendly. The guidelines for care provided by the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association can help healthcare providers ensure a positive patient-provider relationship.

A recent survey revealed that over half of the participants reported experiencing or witnessing LGBTQI bullying at work. The survey found that 17% of respondents reported experiencing LGBTI bullying at their workplace, and one in five workers had experienced it themselves. Of the respondents who had faced discrimination, nearly half (58%) reported experiencing bullying, and one-third of these employees considered leaving their job because of the negative treatment. A further four percent of participants reported having experienced bullying at work.
